In a radical departure from his ten-year black-and-white study of Ireland, Brad Temkin journeyed around Chicago, photographing gardens for his above works. These vibrantly-colored works are occasionally digitally enhanced to accentuate their bright tones.

Temkin holds an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago (1981) and a BFA from Ohio University (1979). He has exhibited at the Midtown Y Photography Gallery, New York; The Chicago Cultural Center; Imagery Gallery, Lancaster, OH; and Edwynn Houk Gallery, Chicago. His work is included in the collections of Aer Lingus, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Ilford Photo Corporation. He is currently a professor at Columbia College Chicago.

Brad Temkin’s black-and-white photographs pay tribute to the wild, rustic charm of Ireland. Thriving plants climb weathered walls and plain white-washed houses gleam against hills of matted turf, all in the soft glow of the island’s natural light. Indeed, the architecture sets so naturally in the landscape that it seems born of the same soil that supports it.
