To better extend the MoCP’s educational mission into the urban community that we serve, for the past ten years, the MoCP has hosted intensive after school photography programs in three Chicago high schools. This program cultivates Chicago teens as independent artists in programs led by teaching teams of working artists, enhanced by museum field trips and contact with MoCP staff and guest artists. Graduates of the Picture Me program have gone on to study art at numerous institutions including Columbia College Chicago; the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Illinois.

In 2012 the MoCP presented the exhibition 1979:1–2012:21: Jan Tichy Works with the MoCP Collection. This exhibition included works made by Tichy in response to the Changing Chicago project, an archive of images made 33 photographers who documented the city of Chicago in 1987 that is held in the MoCP’s collection.  In 2012-13 Tichy worked with select students from the MoCP’s Picture Me program to create their own versions of Changing Chicago.  Selections from this artistic collaboration are currently on view through April 27 at the Chicago Cultural Center as part of Tichy’s aroundcenter exhibition.
