Writing in Anticipation

In conjunction with Story Week: Festival of Writers, sponsored by Columbia College’s fiction writing department (March 12-17, 2006) fiction writing graduate students Darwyn Jones, Meredith Grahl and Debbie Pintonelli will present short stories they have written inspired by images from the museum’s Anticipation exhibition, which questions the very nature of perception and narrative. Lecture: David Bate

Exhibiting artist David Bate will discuss his series Zone based on Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1979 film Stalker. Both the film and Bate’s photographs were made in Tallinn, Estonia, situated on the former Soviet Union’s East/West border and now the site of rapid social and economic change. Bate has a PhD in Fine Art from the University at Leeds and frequently writes for Source magazine.
