SCREENING AND DISCUSSION: Pull My Daisy

Pull My Daisy (1959) is a short film written by Jack Kerouac and directed by Robert Frank and Alfred Leslie. Featuring Alan Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, and Larry Rivers, the film has come to typify Beat culture. Following the screening, several Columbia College faculty members including Kevin Kilroy (English), Tom Nawrocki (English), Chap Freeman (Film/Video) and Greg Foster-Rice (Photography) will discuss the film. The audience will be invited to join the discussion.

LECTURE: The Life and Work of Dorothea Lange

Featuring Daniel Dixon, son of Dorothea Lange
Daniel Dixon (b. 1925) son of Dorothea Lange and painter Maynard Dixon, along with his wife Dixie, will give an audio-visual presentation on Lange’s life and work. Dixon, a writer, traveled and worked with his mother later in her career including on the series Three Mormon Towns, on which they also collaborated with Ansel Adams. Selections from this series are included in the MoCP’s exhibition.

CONCERT: ICE
October 24, 2008
The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), described recently in the New Yorker as “a power-house of new music programming…brilliant and unexpected,” will present an improvisation recital featuring trumpet player Peter Evans. Evans, whose debut solo album “More is More” has taken the improvisation world by storm, will be joined by ICE saxophonist David Reminick and ICE percussionist/composer Nathan Davis.
