Laura SantoyoCollection Manager and Registrar
Laura joined the MoCP in December 2021 as their Collections Manager and Registrar. She manages and cares for the museum's collection of over 16,500 artworks. She has over ten years of experience in collections working for various local history sites and archives, including Naper Settlement and the Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD) at Eastern Illinois University. Before coming to the MoCP, Laura worked as the Curator of Collections for the Schingoethe Center of Aurora University (a Smithsonian Affiliate), where she also taught in the university's Museum Studies Program. While she was there, Laura oversaw the digitization of the Schingoethe's collection to make the collection more accessible to the public. She is a graduate of the Smithsonian Affiliates Visiting Professionals Program for Digital Initiatives (2018) and holds a certificate from the Heritage Emergency and Response Training (HEART) program, an initiative co-sponsored by the Smithsonian and the Heritage Emergency National Task Force (HENTF). Laura holds a BA in History and Museum Studies from Aurora University and an MA in Historical Administration from Eastern Illinois University. Her hobbies include crafting, baking, playing with her cats, and watching re-runs of The Office.
