About the Photographer
Stephen Foster is an interdisciplinary artist who works with film, photography, poetry, sculpture, performance, and music. His ongoing series, 8, considers racial discrimination within the criminal justice systems in the United States and the ways that prisons exist as one of many spaces where black lives are dehumanized and erased for others to gain profit and power. Additionally, his short films slow down moments and gestures into poetic dream spaces that deconstruct larger racial stereotypes. Foster completed his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2019. He is the 2019 winner of the Snider Prize.
