Little League Baseball: Photographs by Mark Steinmetz Jun 10 — Jul 29, 1989

  • Mark Steinmetz, Beardstown, Illinois, 1988

This exhibition features thirty works by Chicagoan Mark Steinmetz that were taken over the past three years first in Boston and small towns in Connecticut, then in Chicago and small towns in Illinois.  Interested in the narrative possibilities of a group of photographs in a series, Mark Steinmetz focuses upon the fields, emotions, politics and objects of the game of baseball as played by the little leaguers.  The photographs celebrate the sport in the year of the fiftieth anniversary of Little League Baseball, although the project was not created under the auspices of that organization.
