About The Event

Pixy Liao explores and questions gender norms, dynamics, balance, and alternative possibilities in heterosexual relationships in many of her projects. Her artwork ranges from staged photographs to multi-media installations

Born and raised in Shanghai, China, Pixy Liao is an artist who currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. Liao has participated in exhibitions internationally, including at Fotografiska, New York, Stockholm, and Tallinn; Rencontres d’Arles; Asia Society, Houston and New York; and the National Gallery of Australia, Sydney.

She is a recipient of the NYFA Fellowship in photography, Santo Foundation Individual Artist Awards, Madame Figaro Women Photographers Award, En Foco’s New Works Fellowship, and others and has participated in multiple artist residencies. Liao holds an MFA in photography from the University of Memphis.

Lectures in Photography are co-presented by MoCP and the Photography Department at Columbia College Chicago.
