Akima Brackeen
Akima Brackeen is a Chicago-based architectural designer researcher, and educator dedicated to promoting justice within the built environment. She is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and directs an experimental platform for design research and fieldwork focused on water, sound, and architectural activations. Brackeen’s research challenges the racial perceptions, values, and culture of waterscapes by translating and spatializing narratives while leveraging design to speculate futures.
3:00 pm Audio Walk:
Join artist JeeYeun Lee and environmentalist Billie Kerner (Pokagon Band of Potawatomi) in an outdoor audio walk that contemplates the lakefront as a liminal space between land and water, simultaneously a public good, treaty violation, and strategy to suppress insurgence.
