Video Playlist: Tantrum of Textures

About The Event

Tantrum of Textures is a fever dream of motion picture and photography work from Chicago based artists Amir George, Shelby Stone, Derek Weber, and Morganne Wakefield. The screening will feature short films, with a live scoring of Weber’s 16mm works by Ian Bertorelli. A premiere of Wakefield’s film, and a 35mm slide performance by Stone.

Video Playlist is a recurring series of one-night public video screenings programmed in response to MoCP exhibitions.

Amir George is a practicing alchemist working as a motion picture artist and film programmer. Amir creates work for the cinema, installation, and live performance. Born …and bred in Chicago, his motion picture work and curated programs have been screened in festivals and galleries nationally, and internationally. In addition to founding Cinema Culture, a grassroots film programming organization, George is the co-curator of Black Radical Imagination, a touring experimental film series.

Morganne Wakefield is an artist living and working in Chicago, IL. While her work takes many formal different approaches, she is most interested in themes dealing with exile, freedom and fears

Derek Weber is an interdisciplinary artist from Chicago who is interested in uses of color, the sensory, the elemental, the natural world and universe – beingness, givingness, and doom.

Shelby Stone is an interdisciplinary artist. She investigates internal inclinations to space, land and memory. Through the mediums of photography, collage and sculpture, she explores the various Realms of Blackness, compassion, intra/interpersonal relationships, and multiplicities of human condition as it relates to imagined and lived experiences.
