Workshop and Discussion: Mapping Petroleum Lives

Museum of Contemporary Photography

About The Event

Led by exhibiting artist Rozalinda Borcilă, this mapping-from-below workshop uses prompts and facilitated exercises to develop a discussion of the various ways petroleum shapes our daily lives as an economy, a source of energy, and as a specific way of organizing the social world. Participants will work together to produce a number of mind maps and diagrams of the various systems that mediate our relationships to petroleum, as well as some of the specific financial, rhetorical, and cultural structures that define petrocapitalism. Images and diagrams produced will be incorporated into the Petcoke: Tracing Dirty Energy exhibition.
