Dawoud Bey: Polaroid Portraits

Dawoud Bey, Sharmaine, Vicente, Joseph, Andre, and Charlie, 1993

About the Exhibition

This exhibition of multipaneled 20-by-24-inch portraits were completed during an eight-week residency at Columbia College Chicago and Providence-St. Mel High School.  Photographing students, predominantly of color, at both schools during the fall term, Dawoud Bey utilized the large-format Polaroid camera that was transported to the College’s photography studio for this program.  A videotape on the Museum’s educational outreach program with Providence-St. Mel was produced by the Museum with EDL Productions, Liz and Paul Chilsen.
